Aunt Millie’s introduces DHA Omega-3 Bread.

September 01, 2009

FORT WAYNE, IND.: Aunt Millie’s introduces Healthy Goodness DHA Omega-3 Bread. This 16 oz. bread is:

  • Whole grain, with 16 grams of whole grains per serving
  • A good source of fiber
  • A good source of calcium and vitamin D
  • Has no high fructose corn syrup
  • And is an excellent source of DHA Omega-3.

What is DHA Omega-3?

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid necessary for the healthy development and functions of our bodies. Omega-3 is available from several sources. The DHA Omega-3 used in this bread comes from algae, but is added in such a way that you can’t taste it.

The Omega-3 fatty acids are present as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), and ALA (alphalinolenic acid). Fatty fish will provide the EPA and DHA, algae will provide DHA, and the seed and nut oils will provide the ALA. The studies done at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada reveal that the average American consumes approximately 130mg of EPA and DHA per day, while nutritional scientists recommend between 500mg and 1000mg per day.

Why is DHA Omega-3 good for you?

DHA helps support brain and eye health, and is important throughout life.

Promotes fetal brain and eye development.

Improves visual acuity and promotes cognitive performance.

Helps support cardiovascular heart health, by lowering triglycerides, increasing HDL and improving blood vessel function.

Supports brain and eye function. Maintaining DHA blood levels is associated with less cognitive decline, lowered risk of dementia and lowered risk of age-related macular degeneration.

The 16 oz. loaf of Aunt Millie’s Healthy Goodness DHA Omega-3 Bread was introduced on April 13, 2009, with a UPC of 71314-00475 and a suggested retail price of $2.69. Aunt Millie’s has submitted this bread to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
